How to fix World-writable config file /etc/my.cnf is ignored?

The default configuration file of MySql is my.cnf (location: /etc/my.cnf for Linux) and my.cfg (location: Program File/MySql for windows). For utf-8 supported database, there must be an entry of UTF-8 parameter in my.cfg file. But sometime mysql does use the my.cnf file from other location than /etc/my.cnf. If you change the required parameter in /etc/my.cnf file, it may not be reflected in database. An error: 'World-writable config file /etc/my.cnf is ignored ' will come while executing the mysqld demon. Solution: "MySQL is running but PID file could not be found"

If sometime, mysql status shows that " ERROR! MySQL is running but PID file could not be found ", after checking the mysql status like below: etc/init.d/mysql status ERROR! MySQL is running but PID file could not be found To solve this issue, please kill all the mysql daemon. ps aux | grep mysql kill -9 pid1 pid2 ... Now start the mysql, /etc/init.d/mysql start
